As 8 Gbps Fibre Channel (FC) switches, the QLogic 5000 series ensure a fast and reliable data flow for your enterprise environment – without the hassle that can be caused by data bottlenecks. As highly efficient FC Storage Attached Network (SAN) switches, the QLogic 5000 series provides optimal levels of availability, especially in the 5802V model. There are two models in the QLogic 5000 series: the previously mentioned 5802V model, and the 5800V model, which features a single supply. Each model in this QLogic switch series is equipped with fabric security, non-disruptive code load and activation, adaptive trunking, hardware-enforced zoning, and I/O Stream Guard Registered State Change Notification (RSLN) suppressions. Additional features include N Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) support, which enables support for virtualized environments, as well as support for 20 Gigabits per second (Gbps) inter-switch links (ISLs), ensuring that if expansion is required the stacking ports have the necessary bandwidth capacity available.

In regards to stacking ports, QLogic 5000 FC switches are equipped with 4 Always-On-It 10 Gbps stacking ports, which ensure that device ports are not utilized for ISLs but for their intended purpose. In addition to all of these beneficial features, the QLogic 5000 series is highly scalable, able to go from 8 to 20 ports in a single switch, as well as highly stackable, able to be stacked up to 6 switches. When stacked to their 6 unit maximum, QLogic 5000 switches are considered multi-stack switches, and a single QLogic multi-stack switch is able to support up to 120 device ports.
