The QLogic 7300 series of Infiniband Adapters, also known as Host Connector Adapters (HCAs), are designed to be used in High Performance Computing (HPC) environments such as enterprise data centers. There are several factors of the QLogic 7300 series that make these HCAs so well suited for HPC environments – in fact, many of these factors allow these particular QLogic adapters to be industry leaders.  Starting off with the auto-negotiation capabilities, while QLogic 7300 adapters are equipped with the highest effective bandwidth of 40 Gigabits per second (GbPs), they are also able to auto-negotiate and provide support for 20 Gbps and 10 Gbps connections. Other industry-leading capabilities include a Message Passing Interface (MPI) point-to-point latency of 1 microsecond, which is exceptionally low, and that is fully capable of scaling to the size of the fabric. And when these features are combined with a high messaging rate of 30 Million messages per second, the QLogic 7300 series is unmatched in HPC networking.

There are 2 models within the QLogic 7300 series of Infiniband adapters, the QLE 7342 and the QLE 7340, which allow the series to offer both a single port and dual port option. While they differ when it comes to the number of ports, these 2 models share the main features of 40 Gbps bandwidth and support for Peripheral Component Interconnect-Express (PCI-E). Other features characteristic to the QLogic 7300 HCA series include a unidirectional bandwidth of 3400 Megabits per second (Mbps) for applications that require it, as well as a high rate of I/O transfer for clustered applications, and support for up to 4 processes per node.
