The IBM TotalStorage DS8000 series consists of affordable storage solutions designed to be used for the highly demanding applications of enterprise-level heterogeneous storage systems. The DS8000 series offers an initial tier of processors built on POWER5 architecture, as well as two additional processor tiers for optimal load balancing and outstanding performance. The DS8000 product line supports Fiber Channel (FC), Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA), and Fibre Advanced Technology Attachment (FATA) drives, as well as the ability to mix and match drive types to better suit your specific requirements. The highly resilient DS8000 series has a physical storage capacity ranging from 1.1 Terabytes (TB) all the way up to 1,024TB.
Highly Flexible Storage Series with 2 Models: The DS8100 and the DS8300
One key advantage to the IBM Disk Storage DS8000 series is its flexibility – it is capable of supporting a wide range of drive tiers, storage platforms and mixed application workloads. Additionally, the DS8000 series offers intelligent and dynamic system caching, which enables the caching system to custom-fit itself to the specifications of the current workload. Great Lakes Computer is able to offer two models within the IBM DS8000 series: DS8100, the base model and DS8300, the high-performance model. The DS8100 model is designed with a dual 2-way processor complex, while the DS8300 is designed with a dual 4-way processor complex and the ability to support up to 4 expansion frames. Enhanced Connectivity and Performance with the DS8000 Turbo Models
The IBM TotalStorage DS8000 SAN series features base models of both DS8100 and DS8300 SANs, as well several Turbo models including DS8100 Turbo Model 931, DS8300 Turbo Model 932 and DS8300 Turbo Model 9B2. The differences between the base models of the DS8000 series and the Turbo models include improved performance, greater flexibility through multiple tiered storage options, increased data throughput rates, and enhanced connectivity. As a result, IBM TotalStorage DS8000 Turbo disk storage systems are ideally suited for applications such as mission-critical workloads due to advanced functionality such as heterogeneous storage virtualization, online data migration and more.
