HP StorageWorks MSA 70

The HP StorageWorks 70 Modular Smart Array (MSA) disk drive storage enclosure is a 2U Serial Attach SCSI (SAS) disk drive storage enclosure supporting 2.5 inch SAS or Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) drives. This enclosure delivers industry-leading data performance, availability, storage density, and upgradeability to meet customers' demanding and growing storage needs. This enclosure is designed to support up to 25 2.5 inch Small Form Factor (SFF) Universal SAS and SATA hard drive form factors. Another advantage of the MSA 70 is its high flexibility, because depending on what type of disk drive that the array is filled with, which could be all SAS, all SATA or a mixture of both, the MSA70 can fit up to 7.5 Terabytes (TB) of additional disk storage capacity depending on your needs. Further examples of the flexibility of HP MSA 70 arrays include the option of a 3Gb/s SAS host interface or a 1.5Gb/s SATA host interface.

The MSA70 enclosure supports direct attach storage (DAS) to HP ProLiant and Integrity Servers. The MSA70 supports the cascading of shelves in a 1+1 configuration to allow a maximum of 50 disk drives in a 4U configuration behind each of the two external ports on the HP Smart Array P800 or the HP Smart Array E500 controller for a total of 99 drives in 4 enclosures (a single controller port incorporates four lanes for a total max throughput of 12Gb/s for SAS). Other benefits of the HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 70 disk storage expansion enclosure include the ability to add a second I/O module for dual domains, various RAID level support including RAID 6 data protection, hot-pluggable components for easy replacement, and tiered storage capabilities that you would normally expect to see on a Storage Area Network (SAN).
