The HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array (MSA) 2000fc G2 offers the capability to act either as a Storage Area Network (SAN) or as direct attach storage (DAS), depending on what type of operating system (OS) it is running with. Configured in a 2U rackmount chassis, the HP MSA2000fc G2 array is in the same family as the HP MSA2000sa G2 and the HP MSA2000i G2, but stands out because it is a 4 Gigabit (Gb) Fibre Channel (FC) storage solution. Offering 2 different models, one model of the HP MSA 2000i g2 storage arrays can be equipped with Small Form Factor (SFF) disk drives, while the other can be equipped with Large Form Factor (LFF) disk drives. The different models of the MSA2000fc G2 can feature up to 12 LFF or 24 SFF disk drives. As a result, HP MSA2000fc G2 storage arrays are ideal for environments such as small and medium-sized departments and remote locations.

The two different models of HP StorageWorks MSA2000fc G2 storage arrays offer varying disk storage capacities. Also depending on the type of disk drive that the MSA 2000fc G2 is populated with, the HP MSA2000fc can be outfitted with a SFF or LFF expansion enclosure (up to 4 LFF enclosures and up to 3 SFF enclosures) for a maximum of 60 LFF disk drives or a maximum of 99 SFF disk drives. These LFF and SFF disk drives can be either Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Mid-Line SAS (MDL-SAS), or Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) disk drives. The type of disk drive that the HP MSA2000fc G2 array is filled with will affect the storage capacity. So when filled with LFF SAS drives, the storage capacity of a MSA 2000fc G2 is 36 Terabytes (TB), but for SFF SAS drives it is 29.37 TB. When filled with LFF MDL-SAS or SATA drives the storage capacity of a MSA 2000fc G2 is 120TB, but for SFF MDL-SAS or SATA it is 49.5 TB.
