Juniper vGW Series Virtual Gateway

Juniper vGW Series Virtual Gateway

Virtualization Firewall Security for Data Centers and Cloud Networks

When it comes to your VMware virtualized data center and cloud networks, security and compliance issues are critical concerns. To address these concerns, Juniper Networks has developed vGW Virtual Gateway, a powerful software suite that is designed to monitor and protect your virtualized environments while still maintaining exceptionally high levels of VM host capacity. vGW is easily managed from a well designed management dashboard.

As a hypervisor-based virtualization security solution, Juniper's vGW software uses technologies such as VM Introspection in order to attain complete, inside and out knowledge of each virtual machine (VM). From this perspective, the vGW can then monitor each VM's security and respond to any changes requiring enforcement or alerting by applying protections adaptively as the situation demands.

The 3 main ways Juniper vGW software provides comprehensive protection and security include:

  • Visibility: Since vGW is able to clearly see all applications flowing between VMs and how they are used, it carries a complete VM and VM group inventory as well as having a deep knowledge of each VM state.
  • Compliance: VM Introspection handles compliance enforcement and ensures that each VM is assigned to the correct trust zone within your virtual environment. vGW also features a prebuilt compliance assessment.
  • Control: Another vGW feature is a VMsafe-certified, stateful virtual firewall. This firewall allows vGW to have access control over all traffic using policies that define which ports, protocols, destination VMs, and otherwise should be blocked.
Feature Benefit
Stateful virtual firewall Defense-in-depth security with integrated firewall policy for individual VMs
VMsafe implementation Breakthrough performance with 10x the throughput of non-VMSafe virtual firewalls
Granular policies

Guaranteed VM isolation between and within trust levels (e.g., production, QA)

VM Introspection X-ray view of VMs and their installed applications and services
Smart Groups Automated VM security for newly created or replicated VMs
Network monitoring

Visibility and comprehensive auditing of inter-VM communications
