Sun SPARC T5240 Servers

The Sun SPARC line of T5240 dual-socket, rack servers offers many advantages for enterprise IT environments looking for a general-purpose 2U server. Since Sun SPARC T5240 servers designed to be general-purpose, this makes them ideal for a vast array of datacenter applications including streaming media, Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) databases, virtualization, web serving, new web services deployments, consolidation and many other diverse applications.  Some of the many features and technologies that Sun T5240 rack servers are equipped with that allow them to handle such varied applications are as wide-ranging as the applications themselves. For instance, Sun SPARC T5240 servers are built on Sun SPARC V9 architecture and are equipped with Oracle Flash Solid State Drives (SSDs) for reduced energy consumption and faster application response times as well as integrated on-chip cryptographic acceleration.

One of the main components that allow Sun SPARC T5240 servers to operate at such high levels of performance is the 2 UltraSPARC T2 processors that they are equipped with. Packed with up to 8 cores, the UltraSPARC T2 processors enable breakthrough performance and computing density in T5240 servers. Additionally, these processors enable the Sun T5240 servers to simultaneously operate up to 128 compute threads per server, which results in up to 2500 simultaneous compute threads per rack. And beyond what advantages the processors provide the SPARC T5240 servers with, there are many other components and technologies that make these servers so beneficial for your data center. Some of which include onboard 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) capabilities for secure computing and high-speed networking, built-in virtualization technologies such as Oracle VM Server for SPARC and Oracle Solaris Containers, and the option of a Sun External I/O expansion unit for exceptionally robust I/O performance.
