The Sun SPARC M5000 offers more robust capabilities than the other Sun SPARC servers within the Mseries. For instance, Sun M5000 servers feature up to 512 Gigabytes (GB) of memory with error-correcting code (ECC) protection, whereas the Sun M4000 offers up to 256 GB, and the Sun M3000 only offers up to 64 GB. Another example would be that Sun SPARC M5000 servers can be equipped with up to 8 dual or quad-core SPARC64 processors, while the Sun M4000 can be equipped with up to 4, and the Sun M3000 can only be equipped with one. Other unique benefits provided by the Sun SPARC M5000 series of servers includes up to 10 I/O slots of a combination of 8 PCIe slots and 2 PCI-X slots with 4 PCIe slots and 1 PCI-X slot per I/O tray. And the I/O capacity of M5000 servers can be expanded even further, all the way up to 50 I/O slots, by means of an optional external I/O expansion unit.
