Configured in a space-efficient 2U rackmount form factor, IBM System x3690 X5 servers are optimized to provide optimized performance with higher database transactions processed per minute, unmatched memory expansion capabilities and exceptional energy-efficiency. In addition to these performance advantages, IBM x3690 X5 servers can accommodate up to two 6, 8 or 10-core Intel Xeon E7 processors, as well as up to 16 Small Form Factor (SFF) Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) hard disk drives or up to 24 SAS Solid State Drives (SSDs) featuring eX5 flash technology. Due to their hard disk drive capacity, x3690 X5 rack servers offer a maximum internal storage capacity of up to 9.6 Terabytes (TB). As a result of their robust and compact performance, IBM x3690 X5 servers are ideal for datacenters running virtualization, enterprise and database workloads.

One of the primary advantages of IBM System x3690 X5 servers is their MAX5 memory expansion capabilities. Without MAX5, IBM x3690 X5 servers can feature up to 32 DIMM slots for up to 1TB of maximum memory capacity. With MAX5 memory expansion, x3690 X5 rack servers can be equipped with an additional 32 DIMM slots for a total of 64 DIMM slots and up to 2TB of maximum memory capacity. MAX5 also endows x3690 X5 servers with double their standard virtual machine support. Additional beneficial features of IBM x3690 X5 servers include up to 30 Megabyte (MB) cache, up to 5 PCIe Gen2 I/O expansion slots, and an integrated dual Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) with a TCIP-IP offload engine. IBM Series x3690 X5 servers also offer the option of an Emulex 10GbE Virtual Fabric adapter, as well as an optional embedded hypervisor and optional RAID5 and RAID6 support. And when it comes to management, IBM x3690 X5 servers feature tools such as light path diagnostics, Integrated Management Module (IMM) and IBM Systems Director.
