IBM System x3550 M3 Servers

The IBM x3550 M3 sever offers an adaptable design for the ever-altering work place. The system x3550 M3 is designed to be energy-efficient, while still being able to perform at a high level for any type of data center. IBM x3550 M3 systems are ideal for any company considering virtualizing their environment in a cost-effective manner, while not sacrificing on performance. The IBM System x3550 M3 server has a 1U chassis to help save space for smaller data centers or optimize a larger data center’s available space. x3550 servers can be equipped with 2, 4, and 6-core Intel Xeon processors, along with 18 memory slots for a maximum memory capacity of up to 288 Gigabytes(GB). IBM x3550 servers also accommodate internal storage options of up to 8 2.5” hot-swappable Serial Attached SCSI (SAS), Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) hard disk drives (HDDs) or solid state drives (SSD).

The IBM x3550 M3 also features has 2 PCIe slots and an implanted hypervisor support for VMware ESXi 4.0 with an option for a 2GB USB key for virtualization capabilities. There are some key improvements on the x3550 M3 server compared to the previous generation x3550 rack server, the x3550 M2. The first upgrade is the memory, expanding from 128GB in the x3550 M2 to the x3550 M3’s 288GB of RDIMM DDR3 memory. The x3550 M3 has also added two additional hard drives, allowing these dense IBM rack servers to now hold up to eight 2.5’’ SAS, SATA, or SSD. Lastly, the x3550 M3 can run a six-core Intel Xeon processor that greatly improves processing power compared to the x3550 M2, which maxes out at a four-core Intel Xeon processor. This helps any company to run more efficiently at a lower cost.
