Cisco Catalyst 4500 Switches
The Cisco Catalyst 4500 series switches are a modular, chassis-based layer 2/3/4 edge switch for use in the enterprise wiring closet or data center. Cisco 4500 chassis are available in four different models - Cisco Catalyst 4503 (WS-C4503), Catalyst 4506 (WS-C4506), Catalyst 4507R (WS-C4507R), and Catalyst 4510R (WS-C4510R). The Catalyst 4507R and Catalyst 4510R switches have the ability to run redundant supervisor engines; a minimum Supervisor V is required in the 4510R switch. Supervisor engines for the Cisco 4500 series are available in eight different models: Supervisor II-Plus-TS (WS-C4503 only), Supervisor II-Plus, Supervisor II-Plus-10GE, Supervisor IV, Supervisor V, Supervisor V-10GE, Supervisor 6-E, and Metro Supervisor 6-E. There are also various line cards available for Cisco 4500 switches, which provide 10/100 and 10/100/1000 connectivity in Power over Ethernet (PoE) and non-PoE formats. The maximum port density for the series is 384 ports, which is only possible when using a Cisco Catalyst 4510R model switch.
Other advantages that the Cisco Catalyst 4500 series of modular chassis switches offer are derived from their many features and integrated, cutting-edge technologies. For instance, Cisco 4500 switches offer performance improvements over previous generations such as 2.6x increase in speed with up to 848 Gigabits per second (Gbps) fabric with 48 Gbps per slot. Additionally, 4500 switches deliver up to 60 watts of PoE power per port by means of Cisco’s Universal PoE (UPoE) technology. Another improvement is the amount of Layer 2-Layer 4 application visibility and control that the Cisco Catalyst 4500 series offers, which is simply unprecedented, and is a result of Flexible Net Flow. Furthermore, Cisco 4500 switches is equipped with numerous automated technologies such as Auto SmartPorts, AutoQoS and AutoInstall, which provide advantages such as zero-touch, intelligent provisioning.
