 DATA ERASURE AND DISPOSAL SERVICES

Manage your data security risk with secure disposal of hard drives.

A number of federal laws require organizations to follow specific guidelines for protecting confidential information. Publicly held companies and financial and healthcare organizations-among others-must now establish formal and secure processes to manage the disposal of data and hard drives. Ineffective management of confidential data unnecessarily exposes a company to legal, financial, and public relations risks. In addition, it can jeopardize the security of proprietary corporate data and intellectual property.

Great Lakes Computer offers a practical, cost-effective method that ensures disk wiping compliance for organizations subject to the following regulations:

  • HIPAA
  • FISMA
  • Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (Financial Services)
  • Sarbanes Oxley
  • FACTA (Federal & Accurate Credit Transaction Act)

We also work with organizations not governed under federal regulations, who want to assure the confidential information of their employees and customers is not inadvertently disclosed through disposal or redeployment of its hard disk drives. With effective management of hard drives, organizations are able to sell, redeploy or scrap their drives without risk of exposing private information.

HARD DRIVE ERASURE
Data erasure allows information contained on hard drives to be overwritten so that the data cannot be restored or read. This removes information from the media to prevent data recovery. Our process conforms to Department of Defense Standard DoD 5220.22-M.

HARD DRIVE DESTRUCTION
If your organization wants to permanently destroy its hard drives to a completely unusable state, we provide a two-step process that combines data erasure with physical destruction of the drive. Destroyed drives are recycled in an environmentally safe manner.

DOCUMENTED CONFIRMATION AND AUDIT
Upon completion of either hard drive erasure or destruction, you will receive a Hardware Asset Management Report that:

  • Identifies the drives erased (by brand, serial number, and size).
  • Provides erasure information (status, number of passes, and bad sectors) for each drive.
  • Identifies the source of the equipment (if applicable).

This information is exported to you in print or electronic form, with a copy maintained in our system on your behalf. For clients choosing hard drive destruction, the Hardware Asset Mangement Report is accompanied by digital photos of the physically altered hard drives.
