Another member of the storageworks family with built-in investment protection in mind comes the HP MSA1000 as an entry level san to mid range or storage area network. These storage solutions offer the best price performance features for direct attach environments, small clusters, and entry-level and mid-range SAN environments. The modular design of the msa1000 san cabinet supports up to fourteen 1" Universal hard drives, redundant controllers, 2 Gb embedded fabric switches or hubs, fans and power supplies in a 4U rackmount cabinet. You can easily expand the MSA1000 with disk enclosures that support U320 SCSI drives up to 12TB within 10U of rack space. DtS (Direct Attach to SAN) architecture is an exclusive MSA1000 feature that provides a quick and easy way to migrate stored data, disks and enclosures protected by most U320 SCSI Smart Array controllers to a storageworks 1000 modular smart array.

Data that is currently stored on 1" Universal Ultra320 disk drives using recent HP Smart Array controllers, as well as data on a RA4100 or an MSA500 can easily be migrated to the 1000 MSA. Simply remove the drives from the older systems and insert them into the storage works modular smart array 1000. Migration takes minutes not days compared to older technology and is completely preserved.
