Last Remaining Stock of New IBM HS21XM Blade Servers

Great Lakes Computer, a 24-year-old billion dollar global IBM technology reseller, announced today it released the last remaining inventory of new IBM HS21 XM blade servers to IBM customers.

In the waning hours of its life cycle, the remaining inventory of new IBM BladeCenter HS21 servers has been exhausted in all traditional supply chains.

In anticipation of increased customer demand due to standardization, application issues and budgetary constraints, Great Lakes Computer has been strategically increasing its inventory position on all available new HS21XM models.

When asked why Great Lakes Computer was making such a large investment in end-of-life technology, their IBM brand manager said, "We've supported our customers through technology transitions for 24 years. Manufacturers of IT equipment discontinue products faster than their useful life expectancy. The HS21 blades are being replaced with the aptly named HS22. Both models are designed for use in the BladeCenter 8852 (H Chassis), BladeCenter 8677 (E Chassis), and the BladeCenter 8886 (S Chassis).

IBM customers planning to standardize on HS22XM blades may want re-think that strategy. The HS22 currently comes with a 30% price premium compared to comparably configured HS21XM servers and offers no additional computer power in virtualized HS20 and HS21 environments. Last point worth noting is the performance gains available through HS22 Nehalem processor are not realized if they are mixed in environments with slower 5000 series Intel processors.
