Refurbished Product and Trade In

Industry: Financial

Product: HP AlphaServers

Solution:
Refurbished Product and Trade-In of Equipment

Problem:
The customer had legacy systems that went end-of-life several years ago. In addition, the model the customer owned was having repeated memory issues. These systems were housed in a remote disaster recovery site in Chicago. The IT staff was located on the West Coast, with no expertise in Chicago to trouble shoot and repair ongoing issues. This situation created two problems for the customer:

  • HP was going to charge the customer full new list price of $26,000 for a refurbished replacement memory kit.
  • HP required the customer to pay an off-hours rate of almost $400 an hour for a technician to come on-site to replace the memory kit.

Action:
Great Lakes Computer provided a short term and a long term solution to address the customer’s problems:

  • The Short term solution was to ship the customer a replacement memory kit for $1800 from stock, for next day delivery.
  • The Long term solution was to replace the customer’s server to the next generation model by offering a very affordable upgrade with a refurbished server.
  • Great Lakes also accepted the customer’s existing server in trade.

Result:
The customer received these benefits from Great Lakes Computer:

  • Tremendous financial, productivity, and security benefits.
  • The memory replacement was $2,000 (including memory and installation) vs. $27,000 through HP.
  • Long term solution—a more reliable system, ensuring a secure disaster recovery site.
  • The Trade-in made the cost of the replacement server system considerably less than the ongoing cost of repair.
